What is Cure 4 Justin?

Cure 4 Justin is hope. Hope for the thousands affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Hope for the individual living with DMD. Hope for the families whose lives have been changed. Hope for humanity. Hope for Justin.

At the age of 8 years old, in 2005, Justin Kelley was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Justin always had difficulty walking, but as he grew it became even more pronounced. In first grade his classmates would always tell him to "hurry up" on field trips. The family knew that something wasn't quite right. Justin couldn't climb steps or get into a vehicle. It was amazing that children half his age could get around much better and easier than he could. What was wrong?

On November 3, 2005 Justin's problem had a face. Earlier that year the family was told that Justin had some form of Muscular Dystrophy (MD). There were two possibilities: Becker or Duchenne. Justin underwent testing and a biopsy was taken from his upper thigh muscle. The family eagerly awaited the results to know what was happening to their beloved Justin. November 3rd was the big day. Now "it" had a name and "it" was Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

No! Not their Justin. But there really was no denying what was happening to Justin's little body. He had an extreme lack of muscle strength. He has since been referred to physical therapy. It isn't easy to receive news such as this. Is there hope for Justin? Yes! Cure 4 Justin was founded as a way to raise funds for DMD research as well as provide a source of education and inspiration for the family and friends of Justin and the general public.

Justin was born on January 7, 1997. He currently lives with his parents, Doug and Tracey, and 16 year old brother, Christopher in the Sacramento, California area. Oh yes, and the family dog, Dee-O-Gee (yes, D.O.G.) lives with them too.

Justin's favorite color is red (maybe you could tell after spending some time on this web site). His favorite cartoon characters are Spiderman and Batman. Justin likes to color, draw, play outside, look for bugs (especially roly polies and lady bugs), and play video games on his Game Cube.
