Because unconsciousness can occur within seconds and death within minutes, strangulation is recognized as one of the most lethal forms of intimate partner violence and a major predictor of future homicide. However, because visible injuries are often minimal or entirely absent, these crimes are notoriously difficult to document, investigate, and prosecute.

What You'll Learn

  • Increasing Awareness: Understanding the severe lethality and long-term consequences of strangulation.

  • Clinical Differentiation: Distinguishing between the medical realities of choking (internal obstruction) vs. strangling(external pressure).

  • Evidence Collection: Educating professionals on identifying subtle physical signs, such as petechiae (pinpoint spots caused by bursting capillaries), and asking the right investigative questions.

  • Systemic Accountability: Improving the multi-agency response, from first responders and advocates to courtroom prosecution.

Who the Training is For

This virtual strangulation 101 training is for all interested police officers, prosecutors, advocates, judges, doctors, nurses, EMS first responders, and mental health professionals across the USA!
