Domestic Violence and The Workplace: Employee Rights, Remedies, and Resources

Aug 27, 2026

About

This webinar will explore the intersection of domestic violence and employment through both lived experience and a survivor-centered advocacy perspective. Participants will examine how abusers may interfere with a victim’s employment through pre-work sabotage, workplace harassment, stalking, technology abuse, coworker outreach and the use of third parties. The session will also address the connection between domestic violence and workplace violence, including intimate partner homicide, risks to coworkers and factors that may indicate an increased risk of a workplace attack.

Attendees will learn about the short- and long-term impacts of domestic violence on employees, the challenges surrounding workplace disclosure and the additional barriers experienced by marginalized survivors. The webinar will also review workplace rights and protections that may be available to survivors, including safety accommodations, leave protections, anti-retaliation laws, unemployment protections, OSHA considerations, ADA protections and civil protection orders.

Finally, the session will provide practical strategies advocates can use to help survivors navigate workplace concerns, communicate with employers, coordinate safety planning and identify options when an employer is unwilling or unable to help. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how advocates, employers and communities can work together toward a more coordinated, survivor-centered response to domestic violence in the workplace.
